Purity is and always has been dreadful. It's an informal restaurant rather than a diner, but try Corn Bread Cafe at 434 7th Ave. between 14th and 15th St. Excellent diner-style comfort food.

The Royal Restaurant on 76th and 5th is great. It may not be much to look at, but the food and service are always wonderful. Breakfast is amazing and cheap! They close early -8:00 on weekdays - but you should definitely check it out.

I really like Anopoli, on 3rd avenue near 70th street. They have homemade ice cream. It's dirt cheap. Also Hinsch's on 5th avenue near 86th street is an old fashioned soda fountain, and it's great. The Pegasus diner (on 3rd near 86th street, I think) has an awesome breakfast and also makes Greek frappes. Love them!

Ditto on Hinsch's on 5th & 86. It's very cool - just an old fashioned ice cream palour. The burgers are great :)

Hinsch's is great. A lil further down towards Dyker Heights on 86th and 16th Ave is the Vegas Diner which I think is probably one of the best (if not the best in Brooklyn). There's also the Bridgeview over on 3rd Ave in the 90's. Anopoli is very cute but the booths are tiny and the food is only ok at best.
