I'm narrowing down my selections for our two days in the wine country next month. Unfortunately the two days are a Monday and a Tuesday when many places are closed. Can anyone offer either a "thumbs up" or a "thumbs down" on Terra and Tra Vigne in St. Helena?

Thanks.

Tra Vigne is fun but Terra is spectacular. You will find many references to it on this site. It is one of the best restaurants in the Valley. Go to Tra Vigne for lunch and sit outside on the lovely patio. But you must go to Terra - second only to French Laundry IMO. (and I'm not sure it's really even second.) Make a reservation asap.

If you can go to only one, it is Terra without question that you should try. If you can do both, I would. I concur on the Terra for dinner, Tra Vigne for lunch idea. Sounds fun.

Roux in St. Helena is also very good, but I am not sure it its open on the days you need.

I went to Tra Vigne for dinner last month. For years I had been hearing about how wonderful it was and how amazing the wine list was. It was a good restaurant, but by no means was it worth an hour and a half drive (from SF). The wine list was decent, but also, not spectacular. I keep hearing great things about Terra, I'll have to try that soon.
