Low cost is always tough, but I actually enjoy Boulder Creek. It's a mini-chain (only in NYC and it's suburbs) and it's a bit kitschy, but the food is pretty solid and the prices very fair. Cheap beer, too.

The one in Queens is in College Point. It's on 20th ave, right off the Whitestone Expressway, by the Target/BJs/Waldbaum.

THere is this great Greek steakhouse called Christos Hasapo Taverna or something like that. Very good aged meat, served with either fries or Greek lemon potatoes. I would recommend the fries. Nice atmosphere -- perfect for a celebration. Forgot exactly how much it was, but I believe a filet mignon was the low twenties. And if steak isn't your thing, there are a lot of Greek entrees to choose from.

I would not categorize Christos in the low cost price range, not by a lot. Food is really good though.

well, this got me interested, so I checked their website.

You better want meat, because there ain't much else, at least according to the online menu. 18oz NY Cut Shell steak is $24 - not bad. 16 oz filet (I'm not sure I'd want to eat 16 oz of filet) is $32. Two pork chops are $21 and an 18 oz veal chop is $28. They do have loads of appetizers.... Judging from the menu, I'd give it a shot.

Sabor Tropical on 30th ave in astoria is shocking for the price. I went with 3 other people and each dish better than the next. Mine, luckly enough was best and agreed by all for $13.00. I for got what it was called but, it's the house specialty. This place has been rated best Brazillian in NYC.

My friend swears by the blackened cajun steak @ Millard Fillmores in Flushing.
Owned by the same people as the White House in Whitestone. Nice pub atmosphere with realistic prices for a good steak.

O'Neil's in Maspeth is the poor man's Peter Luger's. Steak WITH sides is half the price of Luger's and usually pretty damn good. The place is big so you can go any night. I hear they opened another in Manhattan recently near 2nd Ave but I don't know about the prices in the new joint. Don't get any entree other than steak. (64-21 53rd Dr)(718)672-9696
