Thai 101 -- amazing new thai in Brooklyn Heights

Hi, all - I see below there've been postings already on Thai 101 on Montague off Henry in Brooklyn Heights, which opened this past weekend. We agree with the good reviews below except we thought the restaurant was not just good, but GREAT. Best Thai we've had in Brooklyn - better than Chowhound Brooklyn Thai faves Joya on Smith Street or Thai Cafe in Williamsburg. Far better than the other drecky Thai restaurants in brownstone Brooklyn. We are jubilant, as longtime Brooklyn Heightsers who know how our subpar the restaurants here are, that this place has opened. Like crawling out of our skin with chowhoundish excitement. The menu was extensive with several authentic only-in-Thailand dishes - we lived in Thailand for a year several years ago. The mee krob, a crispy-and-sweet rice noodles appetizer, was to die for. The chicken satay was out of this world - magnificently grilled chicken, amazing peanut sauce. The pad see yew, a wide noodles entree, was far more complex than your typical Thai noodles awfulness in New York. Our favorite dish was a steamed fish in banana leaf - absolutely magnificently presented and tasting.

As I said, the Heights is such a restaurant wasteland particularly given how upscale it is - this has long been a favorite topic of the Chowhound outer borough board. Well, when we get a great new restaurant like Thai 101, it's a MAJOR event. We talked to one of the women who served us tonight, who is a partner in the restaurant, and she said the chef was from a 5-star hotel restaurant in Thailand. You could tell - Thai 101 is not just your neighborhood Thai grub. The prices, while not expensive, are about $1 to $2 more per entree than the typical outer borough Thai restaurant. Totally worth it, we think.

Do they serve lunch? If so, today's the day.

The food I've got from the one in Clinton Hill is awful.
