I have read little about Rose Water on this board. so, when my wife and I went this weekend, it was on the recommendation of friends, not from Chouwhound. Simply, we really enjoyed it. This is tabbed as a Mediterranean place, but it is not your typical restaurant of that genre. They have very interesting dishes and use fresh and local produce. The pita is made fresh and is delicious.
The space is small, but feels more cozy than cramped. The service is excellent, with a lot of attention to detail. They are very enthusiastic about their product, which is always nice, as well.
We had a mezza plate and a seasonal green salad to start. Both were excellent. The carrot puree on the mezza plate was the finest I've ever tasted. But, the hummus was rather bland. The aforementioned pita made up for that, though. The salad was fresh and original.
For entrees we went with a ribeye special and the halibut. The ribeye was delicious, not too fatty, and topped with a great garlic butter. The halibut was fresh, and tasty. however, I don't like a warm dish served on top of cold greens.
Overall, we were very pleased and would return. Our only real complaint was that it is a little bit more expensive than we were hoping for a small place in Brooklyn. However, that seems to be the growing trend in Park Slope and Cobble Hill. We spent over $80 with no beverages. This is a little more than I would have liked and the ribeye special was overpriced at $30.

Rosewater is not overpriced. They use great ingredients from local sources which cost more money to buy. Considering most entrees cost under twenty bucks- I'm not really sure how you could call them overpriced.

$30 for a ribeye steak is overpriced. Over $80 for dinner for 2 with no drinks in Brooklyn is a little overpriced.

Rosewater offers a full menu-with most entrees under twenty dollars. I'm pretty sure you'd have to pay more for such good food and quality preperation in Manhattan.

I usually agree with the assessments on this board, but the one time my SO and I tried Rose Water, it was downright awful. Cold, flavorless food and snotty service. So what gives? Did they just have an off night or do we have to agree to disagree?

Side note: I've had a huge problem with rude, pushy service at many restaurants in the neighborhood--including those where I've really enjoyed the food, like al di la and Trattoria Mulino. I've had waiters completely ignore me upon finding out that I'm only there to order an entree and a soft drink, rather than wine, appetizer, etc. And don't even get me started on the time the hostess at al di la solicited a "donation" from me in order to give me a table in less than an hour. Has anyone else had this problem in the area?

I ate there a couple of weeks ago and thought the food was delicious. It was pricy, yes, but the ingredients were top notch and I haven't had fresher better food in a long long time. It's true that the entrees are mostly under 20 bucks, but if you start adding desserts, wine and appetizers, things can add up. We probably won't eat there again until we are feeling flush, but I felt the quality was worth it. The only low point of our meal was awful coffee! The place is very small though, so perhaps that is why the food/service seems to be uneven.
