Time to get out the cookbook; crumpets are easy to make. If you've made yeasted dough, you can do it. I have an English tried and true recipe; let me know if you want.

You can freeze the dough and griddle later. There's nothing better in NYC than fresh from the kitch...

If you absolutely can't find them in the city, Wolferman's, the muffin company in Kansas City, makes a pretty good version.

There is a place in Ft Greene called Tommy's Blue corner. Its a sort of English tea shop/cafe. Its accross from Ft. Greene Park on Dekalb & Washington. Their crumpets may be packaged, but they're pretty good. my husband is a Brit, and I'm always looking for ethnic food resources for him.

Just in case you want to give packaged crumpets a try - my local Key Food in Park Slope (7th Ave + Carroll) always seems to have them in stock in the Bread aisle.

I've bought them a few times - and they're pretty comparable to the ones you can buy from any supermarket back in the UK. Taste great with some butter and a smear of marmite :)
