favorite place for corn tortillas in sf?
Where do you all purchase your corn tortillas in sf? I kind of flounder around and end up purchasing them wherever I am -- which works for the most part, but I would rather have a "go to" place for my tortillas.
La Palma's are too thick for me for everyday use. Unless I am missing a thin tortilla that they sell?
By the way, I bought whole foods brand corn tortillas in a pinch one day. Take my advice, and don't ever do the same. They are horrible.
Thanks.

Truly fab corn tortillas can be found at Rancho Gordo's stall at the Ferry Plaza Farmer's Market on Saturdays. FYI, get there before 11:30 as they sell out by then. This is the only place that Rancho Gordo sells their tortillas, once a week, so the trip is worth it. If they are sold out go to the back of the market, I think Primavera also sells their tortillas, they aren't as good, but will do in a pinch..

Another great farmers market corn tortilla comes from Rancho Gordo. I like them better than Primavera's actually. You can buy them at the Embarcadero Farmers Market, at their warehouse, online, and at select stores. Here is the website with that info: www.ranchogordo.com/html/rg_market_sc...

re: weeklyharvest
Second the rec for Rancho Gordo's.
Primavera's are very thick, delicious, but to me more of a flatbread than a tortilla.
I've never gotten La Palma's handmade tortillas, usually just the machine made ones which I think come from the same masa and are usually still warm. They're less than 1/8" thick, very similar to the Rancho Gordos.
I think there's a supermarket brand called something like El Guerrero that are pretty good, stocked in the same place in most supermarkets as horrible options like Mission tortillas. They're the typical white corn small tortilla that is traditional for local tacos.

I love La Palma's corn tortillas, but I too find them too thick for everyday use. I actually buy some packaged ones that are very similar, but much thinner. Unfortunately, the brand eludes me and I'm at work so I can't check in the fridge. They are sold in the cooled section, near the salsa, at both Whole Foods and Mollie Stones for sure. They are the only tortillas that are kept cool and are the same brand as some tamales in the same section. I hope this helps.

re: Jane
Those are most probably the ones from Prima Vera that you are talking about. She sells at the farmers market in sf on saturdays, and they are sold all over - wfoods, bi-rite, many markets. She also makes really good tamales.
The tortillas are handmade, but on the slightly thicker side. They are absolutely delicious.
