Hooters Comes to San Francisco

"Interesting" article in the Chronicle. Now that I think about it, I don't believe I've ever heard anyone comment on the quality of the food at Hooters...

Surprised no one's suggesting a Chowdown before they close their doors.......bwahahaha.

I'll see if I can find the Hooters Shanghai shirt that I got years ago during a trip to China......

Yeah, yeah, that's what they all say --- the clients wanted to go there.

Unfortunately, I'm out of town tomorrow.

Hooters comes to the city where Carol Doda became famous? I think that whole schtick was INVENTED here.
            For expense-account tourists, of course.

I meant the guys, literally, who are in town on business but turn into tourists at night and do "business meetings" around Columbus and Broadway. Spotted thickly from the 1950s to the 1970s. Without them, North Beach would be quite a bit different today.

Back to the chow: So are the Chicken Wings worth enduring the macho-kitsch of a Hooters visit? Anything else redeeming on the menu?

I do remember they have Oysters on the menu - it was a real treat back in Chicago to get Oysters, there's not that many in Lake Michigan. But here in Bay Area, I don't know if that's much of an attraction.

I haven't been to a Hooter (really!) but in a Wall Street Journal story on wine at mass-market "casual dining" chains, they pointed out that the best deal in any of them (Chilis, Olive Garden, etc.) was the Hooters Gourmet Chicken Wing Dinner $124.99: Twenty wings and a bottle of Dom Perignon!

Don't know about the vintage at Hooters but a Dom Perignon 1995 runs $104.99 at Wine.com.

By the way last year I spent three weeks doing training in Atlanta last year, and I knew I wasn't in S.F. anymore when I checked into my suites hotel and found it playing host to "Hooters University", traing the well-endowed the fine art of being wait-staff.....

                Actually, chowhounds in different regions seem to consistently recommend the wings at Hooters. :-{}

I hate to admit it but they do have good wings. Used to get them to go from the place in Orlando.

I've been in San Diego during Super Bowl weekend. Hooters serves really good bar food wings, fried clams, chicken strips, burgers, sandwiches, salads etc. And the ambiance speaks for itself. The one in San Diego is a great sports bar.

It would be remarkable if they establish themselves in San Francisco without protests.

When Tom Wolfe wrote his essay about having lunch with Marshall McCluhan and Herb Caen at a topless lunch place in SF, I don't recall him saying much about the food, either.

Sometimes you pay for the ambience.

I don't know, I read it in one of the collections of TW pieces. I mostly recall his description of Marshall McCluhan being inspired by the occasion to make bad puns.

But hey, this thread isn't yet "About Food". Can you declare that Hooters is now on your Second Hundred list?
