Lums on Northern Boulevard

Does anyone know what happened to the Chinese Restaurant called Lums that was on Northern Boulevard near Main Street in Flushing Queens for over 40 years? I have been searching for a place that could duplicate their roast pork turnovers, sweet scallion sauce, lobster rolls and shrimp dow see (black bean sauce) all to no avail. Any info on this matter would be most appreciated. Thanks.

  1. Lums became too "Americanized" for Flushing's now predominantly Asian population. There is supposed to be a very long established Chinese restaurant similar to Lums on Union Turnpike in the vicinity of Utopia Parkway, but I can't remember the name.

Yep, Lums is long gone. The other place is King Yum, between Union Tpke + Utopia Pkway. I went there many times as a kid in the neighborhod. But.. as Michelin says, Not worth a detour ...but if you want Gringo Chinese or should I say, Jewish-Chinese, this is the place...

Between Union and Utopia?? Can't be....those streets intersect and do not run parallel. I believe you mean the Chinese restaurant on Union Tpke, between Utopia and Surrey Place, next to the dry cleaners "YORE CLEANERS". I am drawing a blank on the name (prolly is King Yum) but it is very old school Chinese and does Karaoke.

YEP, THAT'S A TYPO. IT'S BETWEEN SURREY AND 188TH ST. I SHOULD KNOW BETTER, I SPENT MY TEEN YEARS ON THAT STRIP.

That place looks like Lum's, and I always think of Lum's when I pass it. (Former Bayside teenager of the 70's).

Its now Kum Gan Sang, a Korean rest.

        1. If you mean that great eat-in Chinese restaurant directly across the street from Flushing High School? That place changed hands several years ago. It is now a Korean Restaurant/Manor..it's called something like Kum Gang Inc. Apparently it is quite good and had a very good lunch special, maybe they still do.
