Can anyone recommend any favorite spots for a top-notch rendition of dulce de leche (outer-borough or Manhattan)?

The Dulce de Leche at Sur on Smith Street (near Butler Street) in Cobble Hill is to-die-for. It's heavenly! The rest of the menu is mediocre at best but definitely visit for dessert and an apertif. You won't regret it!

The interestingly named "Super Bueno Dulce de Leche Puddin'" at aKa Cafe on Clinton Street is fantastic. Smooth, creamy, and full of burnt milk goodness...

I'm curious about what you mean by dulce de leche. Any Argentine restaurant has a number of desserts incorporating dulce de leche - usually flan, crepes, etc. I don't think they make their own caramel but rather use the stuff that's sold commercially. Is there a dessert just called dulce de leche? I have had a big spoonful given to me once in a Colombian place but that wasn't on the menu.
