farmers market or CSA on Long Island

Hello, I'm visiting my friends who live just outside of the Bronx on Long Island, and they are looking for freshest produce. Please advise if you know of the better farmers markets (where the farmers themselves actually attend...) and or 'CSA' farms, who deliver their own vegetables to communities to the Bronx or just outside of it... thanks

Julia

There is one run by East End farmers every Sunday morning. They have organically grown produce in one booth, plus four or five booths of regularly grown vegetables. It is located on Main St in the parking lot a couple of blocks east of Rte 110 on the south side of the street. I also heard of a market in Locust Valley but i don't know the particulars

There's a greenmarket at the Locust Valley train station on Saturday mornings (I think around 8am or so.) Try a web search for NY Greenmarkets for specifics. But I know it's there. Also, there are two CSA's (Community Supported Agriculture) that I know of on Long Island - one in Huntington (Suffolk) and one affiliated with the Waldorf School in Garden City (Nassau). For the Waldorf CSA, call 742-3434 and ask for the CSA information. For the Huntington one, I know they advertise in the Cinema Arts Centre leaflet. So I'm sure you can just call them and ask them for the phone #. But either way, I assume you know that you need to pay up front for the growing season. The produce is fabulous!
