Joe's Pork Store - The Best There Is

Samsonette Jun 11, 2003 11:07 PM

Joe's Pork Store on Ditmars Blvd. & 37th Street in Astoria makes the best sausage you've ever had. For me it wouldn't be a Saturday afternoon without a stop at Joe's for a pound or two of the skinny sausage and a chunk of fresh mozzerella.... I grew up in Astoria and have been eating Joe's sausage for as long as I can rememeber - it was always a stop for my Grandmother on her daily shopping trips - and we all know how Italian grandmothers strive for the freshest and the best!
The sawdust on the floor and the antique cash register add to the store's charm - as do Joe's two sons who now run the store. They are a delight to chat with and you always leave Joe's with a smile on your face (and a brown paper bag in hand)!

Yeah, Joe's is the real deal. It's a gem of the neighborhood. I love their salamis and fresh sausages. They close early in the evening. They are between 37th and 38th.

Does anyone know if Joe's still still open?

Wow, blast from the past. This place was very highly touted years ago. I'm curious too. Is it still open?

I think that Joe's is no longer. I walked that stretch last night and although I did not have an actual street address, I would have noticed it if it was still there..

There is a meat/pork store on that block that is open and operating, but I'm not sure if the ownership is the same or the name...

Dont fret Joe' is still there and is still the REAL deal in italian sausage both fresh and dried. One of Joe's sons run the joint now (Paulie). My family has been in the sausage biz for over 100 Years in NYC and this is the only place I have seen that even comes close to the original simple formula. If you have not been there go today!!! BTW Paulies a great guy...

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to let all of the faithful Joes customers know that they have closed. I went today and the store is empty and for rent. Joe & Pauly will be missed. The last time I spoke to Pauly he was complaining about his health I hope he is OK. If anybody from the family sees this I would like to send my best to all and you will be missed in Astoria.

Actually, they moved into Buon Appetit Deli on Ditmars. Very close to their old location. I've yet to try it though.
