I think the closest would be Prospect Avenue on the N train. The veal roulade is also great. And the two frozen soups I've had are amazing. There's a much bigger Polish market next door, Eagle Provisions, that's worth your while as well. For a nice lunch, walk down 5th Avenue to 21th Street (I think) for Nuevos Tacos Mexicanos.
Have fun.

Erica, a friend took me to Jubilat last weekend based on your recommendation. What a wonderful place. Incredible selection of hams, some homemade, many canadian bacons, all kinds of farmers cheese, sausages and kielbasa galore. The head cheese we bought was delicious. Somehow I never noticed this place even though I live three blocks away. I wish I could recommend another nice lunch nearby, but Tacos Nuevo Mexico might be the closest.

on the metro @ eastern market (orange and blue lines) there's a really cool farmers market. plus i saw it in most of the supermarkets there anyway and also something called 'souse' that was similar but had a much sharper vinegar tang to it.

Try any Shaler & Weber or Karl Ehmer's pork store. Ehmer's is especially good. Last I knew there was still a Shaler & Weber in the Yorkville section. There are several Karl Ehmer stores out in Long Island and a few up above the city in Westchester county.
