La Maison du Couscous

Visited La Maison du Couscous last night and had a fantastic meal. We started off with Meslala which is green olives with olive oil and parsley and zaalouk, deliciuous eggplant with lemon juice and olive oil ans spices, and bakoula, cold spinach with lemon juice and olives. All appetizers were superb, fresh tasty home cooked. We than has two different Tangines. I had the lamb shank w/ peas and artichokes. Also superb, well balanced extremely tasty. My girlfriend had the tajine tafrawatt, a slow cooked thick vegetarian tangine. Also great.

This is truly a lovely place to eat and sip tea. The food is lovingly prepared by "grandma's" in the french Morrocan style. Everything I ate was pain stakingly well balanced and Soulfully prepared with a love of family and food. And the menu is shockingly cheap compared to the quality and cooking. Maybe the best deal in NYC. It's also BYO.

This is a "must try"

        1. Could you please give the address of the restaurant and talk a bit about its decor, service and per person cost? Thanks in advance.

It's a small restaurant with an open kitchen located on 77th street in bay ridge, Brooklyn. It would be pretty difficult to spend more than 15-20 dollars a person.

              • I live not too far from this place. Its on 77th, just off 5th Avenue on the west side of said avenue. Anybody here check out any of the Arab bakeries on 5th yet? Bay Ridge has the largest Arab population in the city, yet remains overshadowed by tourist Atlantic Avenue.

                  1. I have a very picky and exactly Moroccan husband who won't eat at Moroccan restaurants because none can compare with "back home"...well, he's not that bad, but close! Can you tell me if you have ever been to Morocco or are from there yourself and can tell me if the food at Maison was close to the cuisine "back home"? I would love to find a place that lives up to my husband's expectations...so far nothing has!

Well I'd love to go to Morocco but I have not been there. All I can say is have your husband try La Maison du Couscous for himself and please post your experience. Order the tangines which are fantastic. Keep in mind that La Maison du Couscous is a French Moroccan cafe abd they cook in that style. It was bustling on Monday nights and I was the only American in the place sop thats a good sign.

I was in Morocco last year and had phenomenal food -- although none of it in restaurants, just in homes. La Maison Couscous, which I've been to once, comes as close as I've found in New York. No, it's not as good, but it's still pretty darn good.
