I went back to Hope & Anchor for the second time last night.

While it wasn't amazing the first time, it was good. This time, it was really NOT good.

The roast chicken must have been roasted the day before - or a week before! It was so incredibly dried out. And the monkfish, which on my first visit was in sort of a light broth, was in a thicker tomato-y sauce - and there was hardly any monkfish to be found in there! Even the bread was sub-par.

To top it all off, they have a "bartender in training" who couldn't make anything right. We had to send a whiskey sour back because it didn't appear to have any alcohol in it, and it wasn't much better the second time. The Manhattan came on the rocks, which I thought was odd, and was also weak. The green apple martini tasted artifical and syrupy. Yech.

Yeah, I thought maybe it was just me, but I went for a Cobb salad a month ago, and it was nothing like I remembered my friend getting the first time we went. The chicken in the salad was incredibly dry and extremely hard to chew, and the bacon was really nasty, nothing like the delicious bacon I got the first time I went. It was so good the first time that I asked them if they made their own bacon.

I hope that this is just a fluke - as for desserts - try Helen's on Union St - the cheescake and tiramisu is great

Lets see about hope tho - I think it deserves another try

Since I live in the neighborhood I go a twice a week. I still love the Cobb salad. The best Philly cheese I've ever eaten. Great grilled tuna. Try the pancakes - I have them alot for dinner. I don't drink so can't comment on the bar, but the desserts are still killer: the banana cream, the huge chocolate layer....

Yeah, I stopped by a few weeks ago for a bloody mary after work. The waitress who was bartending (it was empty - don't know if it's always her at the bar) had to ask the owner for instructions, and then kept going back to her with follow-up questions. It wasn't terrible, but I had to add lots of salt and pepper.

I didn't eat, but I went for brunch long ago and remember liking everything. I'm sorry to hear your report.
