Any suggestions for the boroughs, where to take Out of town visitors who want to visit "classic" bars and watering holes , . Nothing hot or trendy. Kind of like Farrels(sp?) in Park slope-anyone been there?

The Brooklyn Inn located in Boreuem Hill is a great old fashioned watering hall.

O'Connors on 5th Ave and Bergen is a classic old man bar that now gets a young crowd.

If you're interested in going to Manhattan check out the Ear Inn, one of the oldest bars in America. Great Irish bar with good beers and nice people.

I would very highly also recommend the Brooklyn Inn. It is actually older than Farrell's and is a real jewel of the neighborhood. You'll find it at the corner of Bergen St and Hoyt St. (1 block from the F train at Bergen.)

The Brooklyn Inn used to be a speakeasy in prohibition times, and still has a remarkable amount of its decor intact. It opened in 1851 and you can feel it in the wood.

Last time I passed Three Jolly Pigeons (a week ago?), it was boarded up undergoing some sorta refurbishing.

Gonna re-open?

I'll say it's a great list. I thought I knoew most of the old classic bars in Brooklyn/Queens but you've mentioned some I've never heard of like the ones in Kensington, Rockaway, and South Ozone park. Speaking of Ozone Park, You probably remember Tuties, one of the most amazing old bars I've ever been in. I'm truly amazed that Woods is still open, haven't been there since the 70's, at which time it was a Disco (!), but you could see what a classic it was. --Ken

On various drunken evenings I've probably been sworn to secrecy on some of these, but I can't exactly recall.....

Rainbow Cafe in Sunset Park
Kingsland Tavern in Greenpoint
The Everglades on the corner of Fresh Pond and Palmetto, somewhere in Queens.... in ... Glendale, maybe?

and of course Sonny's in Red Hook, now operating above-board, with license and all, if I heard correctly.
