Today my wife and I finally made it to the famous Gloria's for a roti. We first tried the restaurant on Nostrand and Empire, but shortly after placing our order we were told that the filling for the vegetable roti was not ready. Since they could not predict how long it would take, we left and decided to walk down to Church Avenue and try Guyana Roti House. On the way, however, we found another branch of Gloria's (at Rutland Road). Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. We waited 20 minutes for our order, all while watching 10 or 12 people get served before us. After asking twice, they finally produced our rotis, apologizing and granting a $1 discount. When we got home, though, we realized that we had not been given a discount, but the wrong order (two vegetable rotis, instead of the one vegetable and one chicken that we had ordered). Despite all of this, the roti was a dream. The bread melted in my mouth and was as delectable as can be. Comparing Gloria's to Ali's, the hot sauce at Gloria's was milder and there was less filling in their roti, with more emphasis being on the bread. Hoping that the bad service was an aberration, I will gladly try Gloria's again. Next stop on the roti tour: Guyana Roti House. I'll be back with the details. Many thanks to Proot and the others who have given me tips.
