Join us for a jerk chicken tasting!

When: Friday, October 19th, 7:30 pm to ?
Where: Jen Kalb's house in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn
Entrance fee: one container of jerk chicken (a six-pack is optional)
Join us while we definitively determine who makes the best jerk chicken. So far we're tasting from Badoo, Danny and Pepper, Bratwa, and Negril, and it's likely that Mo-Bay and Island Spice will be included as well.
No previous knowledge of jerk required (we'll even assign you a restaurant if you want), just a willingness to make a pickup and to eat copious quantities of delicious, spicy food. I'll be donating a couple of gallons of my homemade ginger beer to wash it all down.

I'd like to come and bring some jerk from Mo-Bay...And some collards too. If that's already being done I heard Kadel's has reopened and I'm sure his is jerk-worthy.
What about the place on Church Ave. that the times is always raving about? Is that Badoo's??
Please make sure whoever is going to Danny & Pepper's to get plenty, because they really can't be beat.

I'm proud to announce that we currently have a confirmed total of 15 guests and that we'll be tasting jerk from 13 places, including Badoo, Brawta, Danny & Pepper, Island Spice, Negril, Jimbojean, Feeding Tree, 3D's Restaurant and Bakery and a place in Harlem cooks in an oil can, among others.
Because of the great response, we've decided to throw the net wide in order to include as many interested hounds as possible. If you want to join us but can't pick up some jerk for the tasting, please let me know. (If you'd like to make some other kind of contribution like bringing beer or soft drinks or helping defray the cost of picking up jerk, we won't say no.)

It looks like Danny and Pepper (a favorite spot of YH, especially at 3am) was deemed the champion.
However I read something (in the NYT or a blog, I don't remember) about a place that's opened about a block from D & P on the other side of the street. I think its name is a play on Danny & Pepper (Pepa's or something). The article said that at this moment in time the new place is putting out better chicken than their older competitor.
I've walked by the new joint many times and ought to give it a try. Anyone have the lowdown?
Took Sietsema's suggestion about a few weeks back and went to Peppa's. The chicken was indeed amazing, and $8.00 will buy more than several people can possibly eat. They also have two sauces on the counter and the counter-folk seemed to think I'd be a total idiot not to slather my chicken with at least one of them, so I complied (though I made sure to pour only on the side of the container). Suffice it to say that one of the two is standard issue American bbq sauce (not for me, thanks) and the other a nice and spicy Caribbean affair (perfectly tasty, but no great improvement on the chicken). So do as you like. The venue itself is a little funky, but once you take a bite you will surely be back.
