Found: Bureks in Ridgewood
Forest Avenue, 2 or three blocks south of the M train and about 3 blocks north of Myrtle Avenue.
I saw the neon "burek" sign from out my car window on my way to Zum Stammtisch (I was not overly impressed with the place, but may have ordered wrong) and, if I had not had friends in the car, I would have slammed on the brakes and ate there instead.
Yesterday I drove back to beautiful, atmospheric Ridgewood to sample these bureks, and I was so excited when I arrived that I locked my keys in my car. The perils of food addiction...
They didn't have spinach or potato, so I got one cheese and one meat to go, and hopped on the Q39 bus back to Sunnyside.
They were delicious-- fresh, flaky, sometimes crunchy sometimes chewy. The cheese was of the sharp variety, and the meat was, well, it was tasty and had that distinct Central European flavor to it.
I'll be back. With or without the damn car.
