Awhile ago someone wrote about a great bakery in College Point, Queens. I tried to do a search but could not find it.

Does anyone know which bakery was mentioned?

Thanks, Steve

  1. Stork's Bakery, dont have the address offhand, but there are some good threads and the address once you search. Also check out the Cake Box in Bayside (also searchable).

The original owners of Stork's sold out, and it's now just a bakery. I don't want to talk about it.

Yes you are right, I should have mentioned that rather LARGE detail. Maybe my response should have been...."Well I think what you are looking for is Storks, but Storks stinks." But then again--he would read that in the search, where it is talked about. SIGH, yes its awful. You dont have to talk about it anymore. (smile)

No,we don't have to talk about it anymore. But...... just one more tear for the fallen Storks bakery. As a kid I worked a few doors down from Storks, at "Bertlesons," an ice cream parlor (they made thier own ice cream and chocolates). I knew the Storks and the trouble they went to to insure quality, butter from only one source, all ingredients thoroughly scrutinized. Very demanding but it showed. I had taken my son there when we were in town, sort of an object lesson, "quality equals success" type of thing. Now the lesson is mediocrity wins out.....Ahh but life goes on.

Steve - I worked at Bertelsen's as a kid in the early 60's. When did you work there?

    2. If Stork's (in Whitestone) was not what you were thinking of, then the only fine bakery actually in College Point is "La Cheesecake" which makes a decent cheesecake but damn good fruit pies. They do vary from time to time depending on who knows, but the cherry crumb is a personal favorite.
It's across from the 5 Corners german restaurant.

      1. I haven't been back in a while, but I think you might have been hearing about a bakery called Zak's.

I'm a bit fuzzy on the address, probably about 2 blocks off College Point Blvd (130th St? & 18th Ave?)
