Any worthwhile Russian, Brighton beach???
- R Bergen
Last night drove with a friend to Brighton beach as it was a crisp night and hearty fare seemed appealing. Had heard Arthur Schwartz mention a place called Stellas and M&I International. But it was too late and Stellas had a kebab grill up front and everything else was closed down. and M&I couldn't be found, it's more of a grocery I think and it was after 8:30.
We walked about to find some place to eat. But the neighborhood is intimidating. All the restaurants are hidded behind several lobby's and doors and you can't see if a place is empty or full - hopefully a good sign.
Had a mediocre dinner, and left wishing we knew where to go.
Any ideas? Nothing in the eclectic guide for this area that I could find either.
One note: had a bottle of Georgian mineral water. Unusual to say the least. A strong almost medicinal taste. the kind of thing that tastes like it is good for you rather than just good. But couldn't place the taste. The bottle shows that it has won all sorts of awards since 1904 up to the present.
We won special consieration by drinking the bottle down, but the food was just passable.
