Today Ellen and I followed up Asimov's enthusiastic
review of Dimple a few weeks back. It was alright --
mainly I liked that nothing was quite what I expected.
(even the samosas, which weren't particularly good -- I
was expecting them to be bland but they tasted fairly
good -- the crust was bad though).
Ellen had the thali; it was fair. There was a nice
distribution of flavors among the various dishes. What
appeared to be a slice of stuffed eggplant (that or
ayurvedic maki) was extremely spicy; a curried mystery
vegetable was a bit more towards sweet; potatoes
(excellent) tasted very cumin-y. Two problems with the
plate: the chappati was awful; and there was nothing to
relieve the monolithically gloppy texture of it all.
I fared a bit better in terms of tactile sensation -- I
ordered dami puri, which is miniature puris stuffed
with mung beans and a chili sauce. I liked that dish a
lot and would order it again.
I don't however think Dimple is worth going out of your
way for. Just my $.02.
