MS. ANN'S SOUL FOOD KITCHEN HAS BEEN FEEDING FORT GREENE ARE RESIDENTS FOR OVER 30 YEARS.SHE IS LOCATED ON SOUTH PORTLAND AVENUE, BETWEEN LAFAYETTE AVE AND FULTON STREET, AND OPEN THURSDAY TO SATURDAY, AFETR 3PM.

MS. ANN, WORKS ALONE IN A SMALL KITCHEN AND DINING AREA- AIN'T NO DECOR HERE! BUT SHE ALWAYS WELCOMES THE EVER-CHANGING ARTSY NABE, WITH LOVE AND SOME SPIRITUAL MUSIC.

FISH ON FRY-DAY, OXTAILS, FRIED CHICKEN, AND EVEN THE PIG FEET GO QUICKLY. ICED TEA IS TOO SWEET AND SHE ALSO SERVES CHOCOLATE LAYER AND COCONUT FROSTED CAKES FOR DESERT.

I used to live near Ms. Ann's and, sorry to say, I was
not as enthralled as I wanted to be. Yes, it was
not-bad home cooking when I didn't want to cook, but
much of her stuff was way too salty (and I do like some
salt on my food), she often ran out of stuff, her hours
were tempermental and overall I found the stuff not
much out of the ordinary for a bit out of the ordinary
prices. I always liked the idea of it, though and I
admit that it's a few years since I've been there, so I
hope quality has improved and Ms. Ann's is worth a
special trip (which I don't think it was before).

But is there anyplace else like this in brownstone
Brooklyn, or even close? I grew up in the Southern
States and it is hard to find good "soul food" around
here; I agree with your asessment of Miss Ann's but she
was the only one I found doing that sort of food- which
we all need once in a while.
