Fellow C.H.'ers, I, along with my partners have opened
a new resturant on 7th& 4th called SottoVoce. Please
come and tell me how it is. The Daily News Has alread
rated us 2 1/2 stars, we were only open for 3-4 days,
we'll try to improve. S.V. is a moderately priced

I truly want legitimate critism, for without it we
cannot improve. In regards to the menu, were not
trying to be the "hip" new place with all kinds of wild
dishes. Soto Voce wants to be a place where people come
to eat often, not just for special events, its' your
dining room away from home where you don't need a bank
book to eat well. We already have a good following of
regulars, many of which have come and ordered the same
dish they had the night before! That not suppose to be
a commercial, it's just true.
We just wanted to bring good Italian to Parkslope, to
show people that there's more to pasta than baked ziti,
and veal is not just for parmagana.
We do a lot of specials that are often diferent and
unique, so stop by and ask what they are, if they pique
your interest then stay awhile, eat and after your
done introduce yourself, and we'll talk. I'll be there
on weekends and wednesdays.

Just wanted to clarify; it was not Alan who
wrote you but I, a neighborhood resident. Your logic
and ideas sound great and I am greatly looking forward
to trying your restaurant..... is it kid-friendly?

We disdain Cucina and have never been so inspired
to try any of the neighborhood red sauce places, except
for pizza, and we wish you the best!

It was A Late Night.
Yes we are kid friendly, we have high chairs if
necessary.
I think you'll like our red sauce. Every thing is made
fresh daily, including all of our sauces. We make our
own breads and desserts ( Tiramisu, pear tarts, Italian
Cheese cakes can be found on a daily basis) Please
don't be disapointed if we run out, because we like to
keep it fresh, we don't stock pile it.

This about Sotto Voce:

Food: spectacular. Loved every bite. Truly. The roasted pork was terrific. The olive-oil used here, and this is never to be under-emphasized, is fresh and of high quality.

Atmosphere: not so hot. A little poorly laid out, probably because of the space they have. Not a romantic outing, unless you're blind or have very sexual tastebuds. Fortunately, I do.

My husband and myself never quite understood why
"Cucina" was so praised. The place is nice, but $20.00
for pasta just seems a bit high. We are not from the
area, but we tried your restaurant on 2 occasions. I
ordered a pasta with a spinach sauce, and was a bit
disappointed. It was less spinach based, and overly
buttery instead. The second time, my husband went with
a friend, and loved the pesto sauce pasta. Both times,
we had no complaints about the service, but then we are
tolerant people. The decor is nice, and everyone seemed
to want to please. Your prices are also good.I will
definitely give it another try. Good luck.

I'm not sure what we'll be doing in the future, but
right now we have no corkage charge, you are free to
bring any drink you want, we'll be happy to serve it to
you, gratus.
We are planning to carry that on for the month
following receipt of our liquor license, after that we
have not decided. I'll let you know when we do.

Hey Mario,

My girlfriend and I stopped in for lunch this past
weekend. While we liked our entrees, the penne with
vodka and the grilled tuna, the arugula salad with goat
cheese appetizer was just OK (greens a bit soggy).

Unfortunately, the service was pretty bad. There were
only 3 other tables being occupied, yet my girlfriend
had to request her drink 3 times. Getting the check
was a struggle, taking several requests and 10 minutes.
It was especially tough having to wait for service as
several workers were just hanging by the bar. I would
come back again, but the service during slow times has
to be improved.

Had a late lunch at your restaurant on Sat. 1/9 with my
father, who was in from Boston. We ordered from the
lunch, rather than the brunch menu, although it took
two tries to get us both menus.

I had the mixed green salad appetizer, which was very
nice for what it was, and my father had the mozzarella
& tomato salad, which he enjoyed. My entree was the
penne (I forget the name of the tomato/basil sauce),
which seemed to have sugar in it. I know this is a
common technique to counter the acidity of tomatoes,
but I absolutely despise the addition of sugar to
tomato sauces. It took some doing to get grated
cheese. My father had the roasted vegetable sandwich,
which he declared delicious.

Overall, the service needs work. The good news is that
they seem eager to please. The seating is a bit
cramped, but the colors and light in the room are
lovely. I might be persuaded to try the place again,
particularly in the early summer when those front doors
will be wide open, but it is not my first choice.

I sorry that you experience was not totally enjoyable.
We are still working out some of the kinks, but I
assure that we DO NOT ADD SUGAR to our sauces, that is
my number one taboo.
You'll be glad to know that at a meeting with my
partners last night we decided to reduce the number of
tables. It may make the wait a bit longer for a table,
but in the best interest of the diners, we feel it is
necessary. We also decided to add table cloths.
Thanks for the input. I print these out and bring them
with me.

for 7 yrs and am still disappointed. Rice on 7th Ave
btwn 8th-9th Sts is very good Thai. Coco Roco on 5th
Ave has great roasted chicken--we get delivery--and
many people like it for the Peruvian food, I have found
it crowded and slow service wknds but the food is good.
Dizzy's is a really good high-end coffee shop/diner
open for bkfst and lunch at 9th St and 8th Ave.
Lemongrass Grill at the north end of the Slope, 7th Ave
nr Lincoln Pl., is good but crowded . Go to Sunset
Park ( many recommendations in Chowhound boards) for
Chinese and Vietnamese and Malaysian) restaurants. 2nd
St. cafe at 2nd St and 7th Ave is very good reliable
food, especially brunches. Two Boots around the corner
from there has good pizza and draft beers, fair other
food.
