We're coming into summer now, and anyone who's feeling
hot and tired should stop in at the Lemon-Ice King of
Corona (if they're in the neighborhood.) It's on the
corner of 108th street and Corona Ave., just a couple
blocks from Flushing Meadows. They make excellent
sherbet -- I particularly like the tangerine and lime.

A chowhound field trip: A couple of Taco Al Pastors
with extra green sauce at La Espiga, a couple games of
bocce in the park across the street from the Lemon Ice
King and then a lemon ice.
My favorite - coconut

Gotta get the peanut butter ice. By far the BEST!!! An the ONLY flavor the enterprising Ben Faremo won't sell wholesale to Queens pizzerias. You want it you gotta schlep tp Corona and Spaghetti Park.

While there, eat your ice and watch the impassioned boccie ball matches (I've actually seen eighty year old guys beat each other up over boccie disagreements) These "uomonini" take their sport molto seriously.

And don't, I repeat, DON'Teven think about leaving without picking up the cheese and parsley skinny sausage from the Corona Heights Pork Store which is right around the corner.

Happy mangia-ing!

Am I the only one who thinks that the lemon ice king
isn't what it used to be? The past few times I have
been there have been very disappointing. I'll probably
continue to go back though because I love watching the
bocci games.

I second JK however on La Espiga -- a great stop after
a Hall of Science/Queens Zoo excursion.

My husband and I tried the ices at LaGula (suggested by
another chowhound). They were very good but, in my
opinion, not as great as Lemon Ice King. Too
bad--Lemon Ice King isn't the great experience it once
was. the staff is almost nasty. But the ices are
great. Best ever, though, was on Bleeker Street at
Rocco's bakery. Haven't tried those in a while but
the ices were fabulous.
By the way, we had a nice and cheap lunch at Taverna
Kyklades (maybe wrong spelling) on Ditmars near Top
Tomato. Very good and fresh food for practically no
bucks. Try it.

THE best ices can be found at D'Aquila bakery on Francis Lewis Blvd. in Bayside. I'm slurping on a Nociello/coffee right now and it's fantastic. I've managed to stay away from the homemade, custardy gelato (this is, after all, a post-gym treat...) but know from past experiences that it's up there as well.....

Ice flavors are:

Chocolate

Spumoni (the only one made with any dairy- a bit of powdered milk...)

Hazelnut
Coffee
Strawberry
Cherry
Lemon
Orange

A large cup is $1.00

Lemon Ice King is a great place. I grew up in Bayside
and then lived in Forest Hills before I moved into
Manhattan so I ended many warm evenings leaning
against my car with a large pina colada or vanilla
chocolate chip ice. I do have another place to
recommend which is an Italian bakery on Ditmars Blvd.
just west of 31st Street. I believe the name is Guido.
They have absolutely sublime ices that I think are a
notch above Lemon Ice King. Try a chocolate milk ice
or a tortoni ice. Get yourself a sfogliatelle to
nibble on as well.

I just moved from Bayside,NY to Colorado 5 and a half months ago,and I can't find real Italian Ice here to save my life! They have those little Marino's crap in the supermarket, but I simply can't find some good old NY Italian Ice. A friend told me,though, that he would send me some Lemon Ice King's,but I cannot remember most of the flavors. I saw a website with a list, but it was missing alot of the flavors. If anyone can send me a list or page with the flavors,I'd be most appreciative.
