Kebab House -- downhill alert?

We returned to the Kebab House in Little Neck last night, and were somewhat disappointed. The place has apparently changed management. It was full, and they were having problems coping. The food was good, but not nearly as fresh and tasty as on our first visit, and the menu seemed somewhat smaller. The bean salad had a nice dressing with lemon and sumac, but needed salt, and the beans themselves were a little undercooked. My wife's iskender kebab (shaved doner on pita with tomato and yogurt sauces) was the biggest disappointment. Last time, the pita underneat was fried and crunchy, and the sauces and doner were tastier. My grilled quail was very nice though -- not marinated, but perfectly cooked.
FWIW, I went there a couple of months ago, when everyone was going nuts about the place on these boards, and was very underwhelmed. The eggplant salad was absolutely inedible (tasted like it had been smoked over a plastics fire), and everything else was just ok
We were there Sat. nite also ( from 7:30 - 9:30 ) and
while the same owner was there I don't think the
original chef was. There were no specials and the
stuffed mussel appetizer which I've had the last two
times I ate there were also not available.
The food overall was still pretty good and so was the
bottle of '83 Jordan Cabernet I brought along.
Lets hope the chef had the flu or something and will be
back soon !
