Adventures in Dining

Just wanted to let all of my chowhound friends know about tomorrow night's Adventures in Dining event to benefit the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

It's at the Long Island Marriott, Uniondale and last month's benefit for ORT was truly fantastic (was invited to go by my chowhound friend, Cindy and didn't think it would be that great but was pleasantly surprised...)

It's $35 in advance and $40 at the door. Many fantastic Lawn Guyland restaurants, wineries, and specialty food purveyors are present and you simply make your rounds at each of their lovely booths and sample tasting plates of the specialty they have prepared for the evening. Most of the restaurants that are present give out certificates for $10.00 off your next meal at their establishment. (I'm not big on the Long Island restaurant circuit but some of the stuff I tasted motivated me to start making reservations..)

There are raffles (I won a cool Tiffany compact!!!!) and live music and lots of alcoholic beverages (Stoli had a booth at the last one with every flavored vodka imaginable along with Martin Scott Wines....) for the drinking set... And all of the dinero benefits a great cause...

Some of the restaurants (there were over 30 booths)at last month's and probably tommorrow evening's event were: Caffe Angelica, The Kitchen Off Pine Street, Jeffrey's, Lemongrass, New Leonards of Great Neck, 107 Forest Avenue, The Weeping Willow, Three Village Inn, La Cisterna, Nicholas James Bistro, and Sarah Brown Caterers..

For dessert Ciao Bella, Alba d'Agostino's Pastry Shop (outrageous canoli and an extemely spirited owner), Glorious Goodies (truly spectacular pistacchio wafers and florintines) and Starbucks were represented along with some of the delicious offerings the restaurants were serving with their entrees....

I had a really great time (didn't win the Club Med Costa Rican raffle unfortunately :( ) and went home full and content with some business cards from some really cute, young chefs and restaurant owners !!!!!!! Who says you can't mix business with pleasure?????

Check it out!

Came to this message too late to go but it sounds terrific. Any hints on getting advance info of events like these? Would love to go especially when helping out good causes.

      Hi Barbara!

Sometimes they post little blurbs about them in the Wed. food sections of NYNewsday or The Daily News. Once you go to one of them, they let you know about any upcoming events.

I'll post a note when I find out about the next one....

      Happy Eating!!!!
