soft shell crabs - where to go

Howdy all. Excited to get some soft shells and just wanted some input.

Went to NY Noodletown only once last year and while the price was right I remember them being extremely salty, and I like salty. Perhaps the name of the dish "salt baked" might have been a hint, or maybe it was just an off day.

Any other spots in chinatown that serve them slightly less salty, or should I just go back and try agai?.

Also would love to hear of other non-chinatown recs, however I don't want to spend more than $20 per dish.

Thanks!

Nha Trang on Baxter has them for $15 and they're very good.

I agree, I've been back 3 times in the last two weeks. Make sure you get a Vietnamese coffee as well.

Had a great soft shell crab appetizer at Mermaid Inn about two weeks ago. And my favorite one is the flash fried soft shell crab at Sushi Yasuda.

i had an absolutely phenomenal fried soft shell crab sandwich from wild edibles on 37th and 3rd. it's a fish market but they'll cook anything they have for you. for $14 you get two nice sized soft shell crabs on a po' boy roll with fries and tartar sauce. they were delicious.

Only place I've been is August, where the softshells were about $23, so a bit outside of your price range.
