Need bar reccs, help please?

Looking for a good cheap place (preferably downtown but willing to travel for quality) for a couple of broke college students who want to celebrate receiving their diplomas. Preferably "American" cuisine and preferably CHEAP as we are all drowning in student loan debt, thanks for any help!

lily, one place i frequented during my college days due to budget crisis was silk road. it's not a chowish recommendation nor is it "american", but if you don't mind chinese food with unlimited free wine then it might be what you are looking for. it's also not downtown... basically i am mentioning it because it's a cheap eat with free wine. food for thought. goodluck in your search and congrats to your friends and you.

Thanks so much for the rec but since one of my friends is Chinese and fairly tired of eating Asian foods he is pretty much the reason I listed American as the preference. Most of us actually prefer Italian but there are some who don't so I'm trying to find something fairly eclectic to please everyone. Thanks again.

This is probably too cheap but Crocodile Lounge on 14th street and 2nd you get a free pizza with every beer. I would have lived at this place when I was in college.
