Assuming I get the "confrim" call on my Milk and Honey reservation, heading down there tomorrow evening and wondering about a good place to have dinner first. Something inexpensive-moderate, and not too crazy. Just good food, reasonable prices, and somewhere notable for two foodie-esque folks. I'm a bit more of a pickier eater than he is. :) Would love to hear your thoughts!

Thank you!

a good dinner followed by milk and honey...that's a great night by any standard. love that place.

anyhow, as for nearby dinner recs:

-cong ly
vietnamese on hester st btwn bowery/chrystie (closer to chrystie)
n.b. closes at 8pm and cash only; it's a dive but the food is very good, easily one of the best vietnamese in manhattan. and dirt cheap.

-congee village
huge cantonese chinese restaurant on allen st btwn delancey/broome. make reservations in advance.

-apizz
not exactly inexpensive-moderate, but food is pretty good (italian/pizza) and worth the price, in my opinion. eldridge btwn stanton/rivington sts.

-overseas asian restaurant
cheap malaysian on canal btwn orchard/ludlow sts. one of the best malaysians in manhattan.

I only went to Apizz once and the service was horrible, so I'd worry about making your M&H reservation if you chose there.

How about 'Inoteca? Pretty close, very reasonable and very tasty.

I've gone to Suba before hand but that's a little pricier.

all great recs. cong ly, congee village, and overseas are a few of my neighborhood standbys, i had a fantastic dinner at apizz shortly after it opened (lobster risotto and pizzas were standouts) though that's a while back now.
i've heard great things about little giant on orchard street south of delancey, so that might be one to check out as well.

With a couple of their absolutely fabulous grapefruit juleps in you (yes -- I know it sounds odd, but it is my favorite. drink. ever.), you won't care about the meal you ate earlier.

I'd personally go for light fare at 'inoteca first.

have fun!
