Me too.
 
But I would include any of Keith McNally's places - Pastis and Schillers are right up there with the best in the fry dept. The man understands what real fries have to taste like.
 
Also, as a slight curveball,  Beppe on 21st/Park has great fries, with a Tuscan twist.

      <content>Of course!  One of my favorite lunches at Balthazar is to sit at the bar, have a bowl of soup, an order of their finest fries, and a glass of red wine (or a beer, if that's what the doctor orders.)
 
All the food groups, as a barman helpfully explained to me once.

      <content>I think Sarge's is greasy and low in potato flavor.  The best fries I've ever had is Pommes Frites on 1 Ave./St. Mark's.  They are double fried, once at low temperature to cook the potato, and second at a high temperature to get the crispy shell.  They have free samples with a variety of dipping sauces!
