It looks like a nice neighborhood place, but I've heard mixed things about the food. Anyone been of late?

Finally went in there in february, for the first time, though i've worked nearby for years.

I was with my in-laws and we had a really nice time. This was after we couldnt get in to Balthazar for brunch (hour wait). Most of us had salads and there were beautiful and HUGE. I could hardly eat 1/3rd of it. So it you go for a salad, bring an appetite.

I really like how bright and sunny the place is on a nice day (i.e. not today...).

Would definitely return for lunch anyway.

it is definitely a reliable choice in a neighborhood that can be risky, price-and-quality wise. I've enjoyed all of the times I've gone (my uncle lives in the neighborhood and goes there regularly), but stick to the simpler, cheaper options, like salads etc. When the menu gets fancy the value goes down slightly.

i remember getting the macro plate with some sort of salad rice, beans of some sort. ya know it was reliable and i was full with really healthy food. i am not sure i could do it every day. but the food was satisfying. The salads were really really fresh.

worth a try.

It is consistantly fine. Occasionally quite good, but usually just fine.

As noted above, in a neighborhood that can be both trendy and hit or miss, although you may become frustrated with the service, you will never be too disappointed (and occasionally surprised!)

Nice little spot for brunch too.

I am eating one of their salads right now and it is OK. Service is horrible though. This is the first place in NYC that I have ever considered stiffing the server. It is a good place to spend too much money to convince oneself that he or she is eating healthy.

Agree wholeheartedly.
It's not even that healthy.
Their salads are kind of crass, too. Too big chunks of everything. Nothing tastes particularly flavorful. The tofu is just mediocre. It's okay in a pinch, but I actually prefer a make your own salad from any of the delis in the nabe.
The prices aren't high, but not worth what you get. And the service is so-so on a good day.
