great Italian on the UES

I've been meaning to do this for a few months, but there's this great little Italian joint on the Upper East Side that really impressed me. It's called, La Cantina Tuscana, on First Avenue btwn 60 & 61.

What I liked about it are the following: good Italian feel--meaning fresh, simple ingredients; the menu is set-up as Italian, not American; there are actually Italians cooking and running the place.

The second thing is they have a wild game menu (also a very Tuscan thing), and serve a mean papparedelle with cingale ragu. Really hard to find over here.

Anyway, I thought I'd give them a plug, since I'd like to see them busier than they are. With so many mediocre restaurants out there, a good one should get a chance.

I second this recommendation. It's one of our favorites - great game menu, pasta, and fabulous gnudi (better than Falai)...
