I just wanted to say, now that the hype seems to have died down, that the pain au chocolat at Bouchon Bakery is the best I've been able to find in the city! But I did get a chocolate bouchon last week that was BURNED! How did that happen? It was most disappointing. But I will be back for the pain au chocolat!

I went for lunch last week. There is a cafe area out in the mall area with waiter service. It's right across from the main door for Borders. They do not take reservations. The menu is sandwiches, salads, quiche and maybe soup too. Over a bit on the same floor is a bakery counter with the pastries, tarts, muffins etc.

I had the ham and cheese sandwich, which was excellent. Also, the TKO, a homemade oreo cookie served with ice cream was a favorite at the table for dessert, as was the lemon tart.

I had the quiche, the roast beef sandwich and the soup special today. The quiche was great - super fluffy (spinach and gruyere I think), thick, flaky, crisp crust that wasn't overly greasy or buttery. Roast beef sandwich was also stellar - they do their own roasting, and the garlic aioli was the perfect enhancement to the tender beef. The soup special was also very nice - velvety potato leek soup garnished with fresh crab meat.

I had a selection of pastries based on the salesperson's recommendations:
peanut cookie - good
oatmeal cookie - fair/poor
bouchon - good
sticky bun - very good
TKO - good

Overall I would have to say I expected better.
