I would say the food at Klong is a little better and also a little cheaper. Holy Basil is a much nicer place to sit and have a relaxing meal though.

the food at Klong is pretty awful...i've been there three times: nice staff, trendy vibe, fun people watching, but the food is sweet and gloppy and they won't make it spicy enough even if you beg...after three tries (it's right near my home so i figured i'd try to like it), i refuse to eat there...

Holy Basil has somewhat better food but nothing to get excited about, and the portions are small for the price...cozy vibe though...

i say: go to Jeeb (on Orchard St.)...the best Thai food i've had in the borough of Manhattan and they will cook it to order...

So my night at Klong was good and cheap....nothing outstanding by any means, but if I was in the area and had to find somewhere cheap, i would go back. Turns out Tuesdays are 2 for 1 Singha's, so you can't beat that. I had the veggie dumplings to start and the massaman (sp) curry with beef. I needed to meet someone in the area for something cheap, so Klong fit the bill. Thanks guys!

Glad you enjoyed...as for Singha, ehhhh, not my fav (supposedly preserved w/ a form of formaldehyde but who knows...but even many Thai's in Bangkok will spring for an extra few baht to drink Kloster if they can)...

I had one meal at Klong that was decent, and another that was very good. I wish I could remember the specifics of the better meal, but it was a curry-based special that I had never had before. It was closest in style to a green curry, which is generally my least-favorite Thai curry, and included little bone-in riblets. I (jokingly) threatened to kick butt if they didn't make it spicy, and that got the job done (for what it's worth, I have a very high tolerance).

The lesser meal was a kra pow, which is one of my favorite Thai dishes. It was good, but I've had much better.

I enjoy the food at Prem-On Thai, and would recommend adding them to the list of potential Thai candidates. The menu isn't particularly extensive, but the food is really good, especially the Plah Supparos Red Snapper, crispy and soft noodle curry, and some of the staples (papaya salad, krapow, curries). There's a lot I haven't tried, but plan to.

I've never been to Holy Basil but we visited Klong last summer. The food is pretty good but there's a scene that goes along with it. Not for everybody but a lot of people will like it just fine.
