Anybody have any opinions on Payard? The menu looks great, though pricey... is it worth it? I'm way more interested in food than pastries. Thanks!

I went to dinner at Payard only once and a long time ago. But I do remember I had a very good meal. The brie and potato tart is really good, so is the rabbit. And of course, the desserts are to die for.

Solid, traditional bistro food served to a well-heeled older crowd in an elegant dining room behind the patisserie. You are really paying high prices because of the Upper East Side location. I would consider L'Absinthe as an alternative: similar price range but more of a destination for food.
