Recchiuti chocolate peanut-butter cup: baaaad
I love the more traditional chocolates that they make. Even the ones that are creative-traditional like the rose caramel, which is just wonderful.
Just tried the peanut-butter cups, which my husband and I couldn't even eat half of, they were salty in the extreme. Course salt on top, which theoretically and easthetically is a good idea, but in the mouth is just wrong, and way way overloaded with salt in the filling with the peanuts. Like hurt your mouth too-much-salt.
Recently had the Valentine's small box selection, which, also, we couldn't finish: overwhelmingly strong flavors, as if someone weren't tasting the batches of flavored ganache and caramel. They were almost acrid tasting. The lavender, for instance, and the lemon verbena, too - it was actually one of the most disappointing and awful boxes of chocolates I've almost ever had. Here and there I would expect to not love something, but all of these were actually just plain bad.
oh, and the chocolate bars: hazelnut praline (I think it's called?) brilliant. The almond one, which seems a take on Toblerone with the bits of honey and almond nougat, very disappointing as well - about every 3 squares or so does one get a little crunchy bit of something.
Am I the only one to find these inconsistencies in this otherwise really good chocolate maker?

Wow, I completely disagree.--unless he has changed the recipe recently, or there are quality variations between batches. My boyfriend and I love the peanut butter cups. They are rich, sweet and (not overly) salty, and can be savored over a couple of days (by me, at least) since they are so large.
I find them one of the most economical ways to enjoy Recchiutti's chocolate. -
I could not agree more. The saltiness of the peanut butter cups has caused me to stay away from all of his peanut butter items. Eine Schade, if you ask me.

re: de acuerdo
I just tried them this weekend and they were a revelatory experience for me. I loved the way the saltiness enhanced the flavor of peanuts, for once unobscured by milk powder and sugar -- straight up peanut butter coated with the most amazingly uncloying milk chocolate (which I usually detest) I've ever had. I considered begging him to make these with dark chocolate -- but imho he doesn't need to change a thing.

Sorry to interrupt, but here's a quick reminder that we ask posters to keep their message in the body of the posts and not unnecesarily change subject titles. This makes it much easier for readers to relate individual posts to the subject of their threads, especially if they use the Hot Posts feature, as many of our regulars do.
Thanks, and back to the chow!
