I just moved to 52nd st. and 1st avenue and am looking to compile my list of close places that are good...preferably delivery stuff...here is what I have so far:

Chinese: Chin Chin, 49th st...really good sichuan chinese. Best in the area I have tried.

Pizza: Angelo's, 55th St...only pizza I have found in the area that even pretends to be of high quality. Abatino's is a slice joint right next door to my apt. that isnt good but I still stop at periodically.

Sushi: Haven't been anywhere to brag about...went to Sounkyo Sushi and was accosted by drunks who were taking advantage of the all-you-can-drink special which seems to run every night. Sushi quality was average...may go back sometime if I want to get wasted.

Other: Sip Sak (turkish), 49th St....Best take-ou place in the neighborhood. Awesome baked lamb with eggplant, great grilled lamb chops...all pretty cheap. Highly recomended.

Does anybody have any additions to my list? (mexican, bbq?, better sushi?) Comments on what i've tried so far?

I work at 55+3rd and am frustrated, too. For BBQ, though, there're a couple of Daisy May's carts in the area, take a look at their site, or give them a call.

First, you don't want delivery sushi. There is plenty of excellent sushi and other Japanese to be had a few blocks south and west and several recent threads address this.

Second, I belive that Zarela's delivers to your location. It is one of the better places for Mexican in New York (which to a relocated Angelena is not saying much, but still).

Finally, Meltemi, Bateau Ivre, Columbus Bakery, Deux Amis and La Mangeoire are among the decent places in your neighborhood. Don't know about delivery though.

for sushi i would say Yama at 49th and 2nd.

Josie's had good delivery, and also Better Burger next door. very good burgers.

for chinese you can splurge and order from Shun Lee if you want to spend a lot of money. otherwise at this point we order from Mee Noodles, which is decent most of the time for noodle soups etc.

my apologies if i repeat items.

i'd also read a blog called "midtownlunch" - he's very helpful and personally goes to many midtown east & west listings.

and of course - seamless web is VERY helpful if you want delivery and want to eat outside of just midtown. seamless has been a life saver for many nights spent late in the office.

anyway:

1) indian: hurry & tasty curry 45th & lex. good lunch specials.

2) japanese:

- ramen/menchanko: menchanko tei, also on 45th & lex
- katsu: katsuhama, 47th & madison
- rice balls: oms/b, 45th & 3rd
- cafe & beard papa's cream puffs: cafe zaiya, 41st & lex
- good japanese overall: saka gura: 43rd & lex

3) very expensive but good deli: dishes, 45th & lex

4) chinese: also like our place as mentioned above previously.

5) cuban/spanish: sophie's, on lex ave near 42nd st (i forget the cross street)
