My friend and I went to Blossom last night and I was impressed! As a vegetarian for almost 20 years, I'm excited that there have been a wave of nicer non-meat restaurants lately (more than just the fake meat places)

There was a fireplace, a nice touch on a cold night. The tables weren't too on top of each other and there seemed to be a room upstairs that you could rent out for a party. The bathroom was even really pretty. Our waitress Dominique was super friendly although the waiter/host was a bit grouchy.

The food was wonderful. I had a mixed green salad to start with grilled pears, candied walnuts and tofu cubes. The dressing was delicious! My main was the seitan cutlets with caper sauce, broccoli rabe and herbed polenta. To die for! My only complaint was that I wish there was more.

My friend ordered the curry chickpea pancake things which were really good. She ordered a gnocchi special which she also really enjoyed. For dessert she ordered the pineappe crepes with vanilla soy ice cream. Yummy!

Prices were typically Manhattan (The bill came to about $90 with tax and tip), and like i mention above the portions are a bit small, but the atmosphere was nice with a fireplace. Good place for a date or a special occasion. They didnt' have a liquor license but did say we could go out and bring a bottle in. The license is coming soon. Enjoy!

I had a very good meal there last month. I started with a beggar's purse of sauteed eggplant, carrots, and onions wrapped in phyllo with a zippy tomato sauce. My main was the bowl of veggie chili. The soy cheese didn't really melt all the way (ain't nothing like the real thing!), but the beans were firm and well seasoned.
