Anyone read Leah Garchik's The In Crowd column in today's Chronicle? She quotes from the "Code on Interactions With Healthcare Professionals" issued by the Pharmaceutical REsearch and Manufacturers of America., "a set of guidlines for avoiding the appearance of bribing potential customers." This guide gives a list of 20 off-limits restaurants -- they're too good and invitations to them might be thought of as bribes.

Here's the list:

Boulevard, French Laundry, Jardiniere, Aqua, Gary Danko, Farallon, Fleur de Lys, Hawthorne Lane, Postrio, Chez Panisse, Fringale, Ritz-Carlton Dining Room, Slanted Door, Chez Panisse Cafe, Masa's, Fifth Floor, La Folie, Tra Vigne, Bistro Jeanty, Chapeau.

Any you'd add to the list? Any you'd take away because they're not good enough?

This is a clever piece of chow evidence from another field, Nancy. But I can't let the ethical question slip by. This says it's OK if a drug rep took a doctor to one of the many restaurants one tier below these (say Delfina) and bought a fine 3 course meal and a bottle of wine, spending easily $100+. No appearance of impropriety there. That's nonsense.

I'd remove Tra Vigne from that list: two meals several years apart, each really disappointing.

I agree completely. It's at least five years past its prime; meanwhile their prices continue to climb.

Still a pretty place to peek into. Good stop during the day if you're tasting wines nearby, with the tony takeout deli in the courtyard.

I know of a certain physician who makes it a point to hit as many of these *Doctor Dinners* as he can, and has reported from more than one dinner "The pharmaceutical babes were hot, the food was incredible, they let me pick out the wines. The only problem is that doctors are boring." And I would suspect that he has already attended *Doctor Dinners* at more than one of the establishments listed.
