I can't believe you had the patience to stand in that line! I took one look and walked around and went somewhere else for soup. Was thinking about trying again today, but from what I've heard about prices (and taste) thus far, doesn't seem worthwhile.

We need to hear from former regulars at the 53rd Street location -- have the soups declined in quality? Al's heavily-spiced soups aren't for everybody and first-timers may not be used to them.

One earlier post said there's no longer fruit with the soup and only a small piece of bread. One of the things that made paying $8 somewhat acceptable was the "extras" made it a full meal.

I see they've also opened a shop at 672 Lexington (56th Street), 212-355-2521.
