wine by the case
Not sure this is the appropriate venue for this question - but I'm looking for some recommendations on wine shops in town that I can buy a couple of cases of wine at for relatively cheap (closest to cost) Thanks in advance for suggestions and/or recommendations for another message board.

I think it's called the wine and spirit warehouse on broadway and 8th street. Cheapest prices I can find in the city and most everything is priced by bottle and case.

Ditto, with the caveat that you should stick with current or very recent releases. They're seemingly willing to buy ANYTHING they can get at a good price, no matter where it's been and how it's been stored, and a lot of the stuff older than a couple of years is often complete crap, enthusiastic and knowledgable-sounding "tasting notes" notwithstanding.

Absolutely, and I'm glad to see someone else acknowledge this problem at Warehouse. It's like a wine graveyard, with 6-year-old sauvignon blancs, roses, beaujolais, etc., which are no bargain at any price.

I'll always been lucky with the cheaper wines there. In the 20 years we've been going there, only once do I remember getting anything skunky and they took the open bottle back. For example, they currently (as of two weeks ago) have a Corbières Appellation Contrôlée blanche 2001 (normally a bit old in the tooth for a white) wine called Les Deux Rives, which makes a great table wine for just $3.99.

pj wine in inwood, i think 215th and bway, is a great discount place for both wine and liquor with a very large selection. they deliver also. if you go to the store, parking is near impossible, but unless you know exactly what you want it's nice to go to the store. the staff, generally, is helpful and the current deals are well displayed. also, if you buy by the case there's an additional discount. goodluck in your search.

Try Garnet on lexington. They have a great selection at a good price. Ask for a discount when you are buying a case.

Wine Libary in Springfield, NJ delivers into the city. From I can tell, their pricing is great.
And, they have a 20% discount of cases, if you order before November 15th.

If you know the winery you want to buy from, why don't you buy directly from them? With the new wine laws you can buy direct (from some with their own website) and have them ship it to you without the distributor middleman and high markup. Check the site out for a start...

Sherry Lehmann looks fancy; but, generally, if you compare their prices to the 20% off sales and "discounters" like Garnet, you will find Sherry Lehmann is cheaper. Go to the store, get a catalog and order on the phone. Delivery is free (if ordering > $150) and in store shopping takes longer as you have to wait for the wines to be brought up from below.
