I also wanted some comments on the db burger. I heard its filled with truffles and foie gras at a price of 120 or something around that. Is it a must try item? If so, can I get take out? Thanks!

The db buger is TOTALLY worth the price -- which is not nearly $120. Try around $30. Not sure about the take-out options, I would call and find out. But it's definitely worth the indulgence. Be prepared for the food coma that accompanies it though!

I was very disappointed. Got the $60 version and it just didn't come together. And I love foie gras and truffles. But for burgers - give me Corner Bistro.

It costs $29, and comes with fries or pommes soufflees. Setting aside the fancy stuff for a moment, it's a very good, thick patty made by filling a sirloin shell with braised brisket and searing it: so you get charred ground steak around the outside, braised beef within. Flavor and texture. And they serve it on a really good parmesan bun, with a selection of high quality condiments. If you sit down to eat it, you get the bread basket too (I would think take-out was an unusual request, so definitely check first).

Now, in addition to this, you will find a very small nugget of foie gras right in the center of the patty, and some flecks of black truffle. Occasionally, the restaurant serves versions with extra truffles at higher prices. But I recommend it as a burger - the luxury frills are not the essence of the experience.

A bit of a dissenting opinion....

I am not a big fan, its a cool idea but it doesnt work very well as a burger, first off in order to stuff it with the rib meat foie gras and truffles it needs to be very thick and its alsmot ball shapped, as it is a small diameter. I had to eat mine with a knife and fork becasue it just wasnt possible any other way. a tasty concotion but i wouldnt call it a burger, my two favorite burgers are a) McHales (46th and 8th) and b) Donovans (around 61st and woodside in queens).

I need to try the peter luger burger.

Just went to db last week for the first time, and of course, had to try the burger.

Very disappointed, especially for the price. In general, the burger tasted just fine, but wasn't so exceptional as to justify the complication of preparation or cost. Interestingly, the table next to us had also ordered two, and I heard them complaining that the burgers were served ice cold in the center. While I appreciate the conceptual idea of db's burger, the actual burger itself falls short in reality.

For my money (and more importantly, for my taste!), the best is still my own Shake Shack special order made with one beef burger and one mushroom burger with all the toppings (shack sauce, cheese, etc.). It's the ultimate mushroom burger, and tastes better than any burger I've ever had, pretty much.

Couple of points: cut in half, you can certainly eat it with your hands. I usually do. As for the price, you are not simply paying for a burger; you are paying for a dinner entree at a fairly pricy and always busy midtown Manhattan restaurant with Boulud's name attached. That they keep it under $30 is remarkable. They cannot offer a $12 entree - economics.

Obviously, a burger served ice cold in the middle is a mistake. First time I've heard of that happening.

I haven't had the db burger (I live in Delaware) but I have had a kobi beef burger served with fois gras and truffles. I normally love fois gras but I did not enjoy it as part of the burger. The taste and texture seemed to overwhelm the beef and I wound up scraping the fois gras off. The fois gras was nicely cooked but I found the combination just didn't work for me. The next time I go the restaurant I will order the same burger but I will ask them to hold the fois gras.
