Hi, I'm looking for a reasonably priced Swedish restaurant in NYC. Sort of like Good World Bar and Grill. In fact, very much like that, but someplace new.

Any boro is fine.

thanks

My Swedish co-workers swear that Ulrika's (near Bloomingdales) is the kind of stuff they get at home. You can check the menu at www.ulrikas.com

Ulrika's doesn't try to reinvent the wheel. It does seem to be the favorite place for Swedes to find comfort food in New York.

I'm not familiar with Good World B&G. We like to go to AQ Cafe, in the Scandinavia House, on Park Av., b/t 37th & 38th Sts. It's a cafeteria set-up, and Chef Marcus Samuelsson, of Aquavit, is responsible for the menu of hot dishes, salads, and sandwiches. My particular favorite: the Swedish meatballs. Delicious!

Their food is a bit cafeteria style, since everything is pre cooked and they reheat it via microwave. The food is tasty though and I like the colorful cafeteria.

They close early though.

The place on Stone Street downtown is not bad, especially for lunch. Samuelsson's cafe in Scandinavia House is OK, also as a lunch spot. Ulrika's is probably the most reasonably priced dinner place, tho. Aquavit is awfully good, but pricey, and based in tradition but more inventive. My only problem with Ulrika is that I find the seats uncomfortable and the room overly bright for dinner.

Smorgas Chef, the place on Stone Street, also has a branch at 2nd Avenue at 49th Street. Not as traditional as Ulrika's but they do have a good herring plate.
