I've had a mad craving for the past few months for those caramel wafers you find everywhere in the Netherlands and in London. I've heard Dean and Deluca in NY sells them, but I can't seem to find them. Anyone know where I can find them in Manhattan? Thanks!!!

You might want to try a Columbian variation [and also explore new cuisines] - go to Jackson Heights. You can find street vendors and Columbian bakeries who sell you very thin wafers [thinner than pizzeles]. They smear one wafer with dulce de leche [caramel] and cap it with another wafer. Delicious and highly addictive. You can also buy a bag of the wafers and a container full of dulce de leche to make your own.

Oh, yes, I've had these. They serve them for dessert for $1 at Caracas Arepas in the E. Village. Although they are excellent, I am looking for the packaged variety to heat up under my coffee cup!

If we're talking about stroopwaffel, two wafers with caramel sandwiched between that you place on top of your coffee cup to heat the caramel, I'd love to know where they are in Manhattan myself. The Holland America Bakery in Wantage, NJ, carries them, as does Dutch Market online. Holland America Bakery is great, tho, since they also carry Douwe Egbert coffees, several varieties of Dutch licorice (leaning toward the salt licorice), salmiak and a full carbo loading bunch of traditional Dutch pastries.

You can find the packaged variety - and of good quality - all over the place. I have bought them at Fairway and several health food stores seem to have them. Not expensive either.
