I order polenta every time I see it on a menu, but somehow it never lives up to my memory. Like trying to recapture a first kiss.

Where can I find the best?

Now we're talking. My favorite polenta in the known universe is at Union Square Cafe, where it's on the appetizer (or sides) menu. It's moist and porridgy, not dry and hard (although I also like that variety if done properly). They melt mascarpone cheese on the top. Eating it is a blissful experience that defies description.

People rave about the fricasse of mushrooms w/polenta app at L'Impero. I found it very good but not as good as I expected from the raves.
