I recently became very interested in Persian Food...and would love to try some really great options. Any suggestions? I hear Persepolis on the UES and a few places in Queens (Persian Tea Room and Patoug) are mixed. Not sure why, nor about atmosphere....

I was visiting NYC last week and ended up at Persepolis based on my friend's request to eat there. I had the saffron chicken kabob and tried two of their rice offerings. I have only had Persian kabobs at hole-in-the-wall places in DC and thought Persepolis' version was a notch above these. Nothing spectacular, but then you might fare better if you try lamb or filet. The leftovers were great the next day over salad. I also tried a beet and feta salad, simple but good. As you are seated you are served warm breads.

The rices were nice - I had the cherry rice and the almond rice. The waiter graciously agreed to let me try half and half. I must say that the service was attentive even though they they shuffled tables outside throughout our dinner. My biggest complaint is that they give you a drink menu before the actual dinner menu - kind of annoying.

I agree with this post. They really push the drinks at Persepolis. I had better luck with the appetizers (cold mezzes) than the main courses. The meat was very dry and, although it was good, the dry rice did not compliment the kebabs.

no great options, alas. i love the joojeh kabob at persepolis (marinated, onion/saffron/lemon chicken) but generally am not a fan of the place. the appetizers are okay but not great; there are very limited options for the stews (khorest) and they're also not great. if you're going there, the koubideh (ground meat kabob) is good, get it with the chicken, and definitely get some dessert (saffron ice cream or faludeh which is frozen vermicelli like noodles in a slushy sweet sour mix-- also not the greatest ice cream or faludeh ever, but sadly, the best we've got here)
ravagh is in midtown, food is worse.
haven't been to patough or persian tea room, but i think persian tea room got good reviews here a while back-- post on outer boroughs and see what people have to say

Ate at Colbeh with a large group and thought the food was good, not blow my mind great, but pretty solid. The steak kebab was very good. The hot and cold mezzes were also good. I do not have much to compare it to, as this was my first Persian restaurant experience and the only other Persian I have eaten was a Persian friend's cooking.
