favorite holiday indulgence

I just wrote about the amazing smoked duck (see smoked duck insanity) and it got me thinking about favorite holiday food. I love to plan my Xmas party because I get to make all the indulgent and/or expensive party food that I can't do the rest of the year. I save my notes from each year and it's a great help when planning the current party.

Over the past few years we've found different things that have been definite crowd pleasers. Obviously, everyone has favorite recipes, but what are some of your favorites that can be purchased and pretty much served as is? What's the brand (if you know) and where do you find them? (I have post-party depression and want to plan for next year already!)

Some of my own:

snow crab claws (already cut with a little morsel of meat exposed;great finger food!) from Safeway

Coarse cut Pate au poivre from Whole Foods

Mousse au poivre pate from Woodlands

Wasabi Caviar (can be used in a bunch of fun ways)

Colton Bassett English Stilton (great with homemade port-fig "tapenade")

Niman Ranch Applewood Smoked boneless ham

Niman Ranch Applewood Smoked pepper bacon (rub it with brown sugar, cook and cut into bite sized pieces for another finger food people snap up)

So what else do people like?

  1. Not off the shelf, but super easy.
Ahi tartare on Belgian endive. Dice up the Ahi, drizzle with XVOO, season with a little S&P, and serve on the endive leaves. Serve with Champagne and you'll have many friends.

    1. Neals Yard Stilton and a very old port.

Small chorizo sausauges from the Spanish Table.

Where and what is the Spanish Table? I am always on the lookout for sources of Spanish food and cooking utensils.
