Nice piece by Amanda Hesser on the city's new bistros, particularly Chez Papa, Chez Nous and Chez Spencer. I've seen some comments by others either on this board or maybe elsewhere disparaging Chez Papa. But in my experience, the only thing to criticize is the noise. I'm soooo happy its only 3 blocks from home.

Thanks for the link. Ms. Hesser, alas, was remiss in not mentioning Le Central, a place where I was fond of hitting the choucroute garni 30 years ago or so. But then, Le Central never had $70 dinners.

How on earth could a journalist from nyc actually compare McNally to Rigo???!!!
Besides both being in the food business, there really isn't any comparison to what McNally has accomplished , except possibly the scope of Pat Kuleto (and mainly in scope). And why even the need for comparison in an article such as this?
Balthazar and Pastis alone stand head and shoulders above most of the similarly themed restaurants here, and the venerable Odeon...
Liz
Has she lost her mind?
Not to mention the inclusion of some of the restaurants which are clearly not bistros, and the exclusion of le central?
