Other than here where can we go under $50.00 per person in Manhattan. Apprentice, Trump or tv show related (Seinfeld) for good food. Going to Serendipity for lunch. For the hot chocolate. help greatly appreciated.

The problem is most restaurants related to shows are overpriced with poor food. Depending how old your kids are, you might want to try the Nougatine at Jean Georges. it is in the Trump International Hotel in Columbus Circle. Jean Georges is a fantastic restaurant and the Nougatine is the less expensive, less formal front room.

The suggestion about the deli and the ice cream and lunching in Central park sounds good. I love the whole Foods store in columbus Circle so even a picnic lunch from there is good. I have been to NYC a few times but this is the 1st time with my boys, Already planning on Uncle Nicks Greek food and Serendipity possibly Balathazar or somewhere in China town. Thank you for the great suggestions.

It's impressive that you can eat and think of Donald Trump at the same time. The sight of that egomaniacal toad usually turns people's stomachs.

Josi, one of reasons you haven't gotten any serious answers is because very few people who regularly contribute to this board have ever eaten there. I go out as often as I can but it is definitely a place I'd steer clear from when I'm in midtown. But a broader reason is that New Yorkers are inpatient with all the tourists who come to the city and don't really experience it. They take part in the "pre-packaged" experiences, stay in just a couple of neighborhoods, and never get a sense of what makes New York the best and most fascinating city in the world. I'll bet if you took your kids to any number of great, unique restaurants - ranging from delis to pizzerias to a Chinatown dive to an upscale midtown restaurant - they'll really remember it and get a better feeling what NY is all about.

So my advice is to wander in to Trump Tower (it'll take about 5 minutes to see it, and they have some of the nicest public bathrooms in the city in the lower level), then go have a great meal and fun time somewhere else.

One of the things I often do with friends from out of town is walk over the Brooklyn Bridge at sunset. If you are walking towards Manhattan you can go north a few blocks then eat in Chinatown. This is really the best walk because you are facing the view. But you can also start (or end) in Brooklyn, have a good pizza at Grimaldis then have ice cream on the pier just across the street. You'll be almost right below the Brookyn Bridge and the lights of the city will be twinkling before you.

I think a Brooklyn trip might be sort of advanced for a first-time visit. Also, I grew up here, and all I wanted to do as a kid was cheesy touristy stuff like FAO Schwartz and Planet Hollywood. So I would keep in mind that kids aren't necessarily geared for, or appreciative of, the "authentic" NY experience.

If you want to get creative...why don't you go to Eli's, a gourmet market on the UES, and pick up some of that Trump ice cream that they featured on the show and you can only get in NYC. I think it even has his picture on the pint, and the kids will have a souvinear. While at the market, also pick up some yummy prepared food and picnic in Central Park right near the Trump building (or plaza).
